We were passing through Kernersville, North Carolina and spotted this little white van, parked at a restaurant, with bold red letters and a large phone number printed on the side.It read "History Making Farming Author - On the move"We had to find out what this meant, so we called the number and it led us to a farm in Rural Hall, NC to meet a wonderful storyteller on a mission to teach children how to grow their own food.Contact Vern"The Watermelon Man" http://www.vernswitzer.com/___... books children culture nature education travel north Carolina rural hall watermelon duck goat story catfish farm

Hey! The Rural Hall Grill is awesome! I prefer their burgers, though.

Vern and Joes is more in the town of Germanton which is right outside of Rural Hall. I live in Rural Hall and there's not really much here but a bad hot dog place and a depot for the Yadkin Yalley Railroad. Thank you thought for making good videos about North Carolina. :)A good place to visit in Rural Hall is the Nazareth Lutheran Church on Hwy. 65. There are Confederate graves in the church graveyard and a Revolutionary war Lt.Colonel Anthony Bitting whose land was once the entire town.

This is no vegetable garden; this is a real farm. It's hard work, but if you you love food that much, it makes sense. I tried growing my own food this year and screwed up big time. I do have some nice cucumbers to show for it though.Next year I'm planting a big vegetable garden again, but I have it planned better.
