"Dana Dana" is a very popular song that is well known in English as "Dona Dona".The original Yiddish song was for the theater piece "Esterke" (1940/41). The text was written by Aaron Zeitlin (or Ahron Tzeitlin, 1889-1973, born in Russia, lived in Poland) and the music was written by Sholom Secunda (1894-1974, born in Ukraine, educated in America). He worked at a Jewish theater from 1937 to the beginning of the 1940s.). Both of them are Jewish and the song was written in the time of the Nazis.

I know that the music of this song was written by Sholom Secunda, the lyrics were written by either Aaron Zeitlin or Itschak Katsenelson. I tried to figure this out once, 'cause I've read that Secunda wrote this for his play 'Esterke', but I've read too that Katsenelson wrote the lyrics in the ghetto of Warsaw after his wife and children were transported.. So I was left quite confused.. Maybe somebody can confirm who the author is?
