This GORGEOUS version of Casta Diva is from Cecilia's upcoming new album "Maria" (no, not Callas...Malibran) tribute to the biggest diva of the 19th century. Not since Montserrat Caballe has someone sang more beautiful pianissimo high B flats. Haters, keep it to a minimum...Remember, this song is meant to be a solemn prayer to the moon, so it is sung more intimitely than Maria Callas sang it. The key is in Malibran's version (F).

She "sings" this very interestingly and I liked it better than anything I have heard her sing. That said, she is not an agile, flexible lyric-spinto soprano which is definitely what this aria requires. But, well done.

I don't think she sounds like a bleeting sheep! I agree with you that her vibrato is a tad uneven. The adjective "tad" applies to how I hear her, but I have an untrained ear (and voice). You might well be more aware than I am of her problems. Thanks for posting a response.

Her vibrato is Uneven, and that usually means that the person has heart problems, or blood pressure issues. When the voice is totally relaxed the vibrato should be even, not fluttery or wobbly. She sounds like a bleeting sheep!

I disagree. She has a strong voice and exquiste tone. I love Sutherland but his is even better.

This is absolutely awful and wrong.. The vibrato is like a sheep .. way tooo fluttery.. And she is NOT A MEZZO either, she sounds like a very light soprano.

For my taste Sills had one of the ugliest tones I've heard, but she was a great singer.

It's not bad. Pretty sound, if she sounds too nasal and as if her nose was plugged. The problem is her voice is too small. Sills did it best; the best musicianship, tone and emotion. Sutherland (depending on the version) was ravishing because of sheer power: Sutherland stuns you, Sills rips your heart out.

this is absolutely beautiful---you people who are such haters of bartoli and critical of her--i don't believe you are good listeners maybe you need to adjust your hearing aide--you act as if you lived centuries ago--hey instruments are far more advanced now--so pick up the tune..i love you Bartoli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well yes, Callas' Norma is the best norma in record, that's for certain, no other Norma in record has the voice to be called an assoluta and be compared with a Guiditta Pasta or Maria Malibran. But Cecilia does a beautiful job in this one aria.

One shouldnt compare this job with Callass one. Maria Callas and Casta Diva go together in a way. But Cecilia Bartoli is putting her soul inhere and she achieves a very nice rendition.
