WWU now keeps this revived EV1 in hiding, "off the streets", in obedience to evil GM. Will they dare to drive or video it?Latest news: GM contacted WWU, which had restored this EV1, and "reminded" them to the effect that they better not do it again. In the legendary days of the Electric car, the sainted EV1 tempted the evil GM wizzard, who plotted and schemed to kill the oil-free car. Despite all it could do, the poor EV1 was tripped up and betrayed by the evil Alan Lloyd in collusion with GM, stripped from the arms of loving homes, and smashed in the wheels of grimy junkyards...but wait, thundering hoofbeats of inevitable history resound in the San Fernando Valley as the EV1 RIDES AGAIN!

I have a Motor Trend from that time that says GM estimated the next generation to go up to 450 MPChrg . . . but we never saw it. I'd bet the Oil cos made sure of that. GM execs probably got the msg loud and clear. As for the Batt Swap, why not take along an E85 pwrd generator for long trips and charge the Batt as you drive??? OH, that IS what the VOLT does!!! No need to swap. Range is 600 Miles/tank on the generator @ 55 MPG.

People often say the range is the main reason they wouldn't get an electric car. What we need are batteries that can be easily and quickly removed from the car and replaced with fully charged ones. You subscribe to a system whereby you rent batteries which are swapped for charged ones so you don't have to wait for it to be charged up. They should do this at supermarket petrol stations because they have no obligation to sell fuels (unlike franchised petrol stations). No need to wait for hydrogen.

The annoying thing is that the EV1 was quite good. I'd buy one if they sold it. All the electric cars now are gash; made by small Indian companies and imported into the UK, they go only 40mph, have a range of 40-50 miles and have terrible safety records. If US car firms could convince people that they could live with a huge 4x4 that they couldn't park, see out of and pay to fuel then they could convince people to buy an EV. Especially as they owned the technology to make it go like 300 miles.

Wait wait wait wait....ur the same guy who believes the Chevy VOLT is a hoax... wow this is too funny...dude i gotta admit ur pretty darn awsome...yah we disagree on the whole volt thing but hey heres one thing im so sure we can agree on..the ev1 is and will be a way better car then the volt and GM was just really stupid for reposing all of them then destroying them. i would have let the people who had them keep till they wouldnt run any more. so i think a may subscribe to u

That's another MYTH: that widespread use of electric cars would overload the electric grid. If every electric car charged up over night, using electricity at the power level of 1500 watts from a standard outlet (same as a hair - blow dryer), how could this possibly overload anything when 1). The airconditioner (4000 watts) if off for the night. 2). The Clothes Dryer (6000 watts) is off. 3). Most lights are off (1000 watts), 4). The electric Stove (4000 watts) is off. Hope u get the idea.

It would be like the Tobacoo companies, when the realized that people were running from their product they diversified...this is what the Oil companies would have done...started wind farms and building electric powerstations running on safe tech at every opportunity they could using their huge profits knowing that the oil business was on the vurge of death....

I agree partly with you, but this is my question. Why are the Japanese so successful then. Why is Toyota killing us, they are even in Nascar now. The truth is they build reliable cars. We just are starting to, but have denied problems for so long that people went to Japanese and Korean cars instead. Now they are 10yrs ahead on hybrid and electric tech., and GM's head is still saying the Prius does not make money short term, that is their mentality, short term not long term, same with Wall ST.
