http://www.mediaed.orgHip-Hop:... Beyond Beats & Rhymes provides a riveting examination of manhood, sexism, and homophobia in hip-hop culture. Director Byron Hurt, former star college quarterback, longtime hip-hop fan, and gender violence prevention educator, conceived the documentary as a "loving critique" of a number of disturbing trends in the world of rap music. He pays tribute to hip-hop while challenging the rap music industry to take responsibility for glamorizing destructive, deeply conservative stereotypes of manhood. The documentary features revealing interviews about masculinity and sexism with rappers such as Mos Def, Fat Joe, Chuck D, Jadakiss, and Busta Rhymes, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, and cultural commentators such as Michael Eric Dyson and Beverly Guy-Shetfall. Critically acclaimed for its fearless engagement with issues of race, gender violence, and the corporate exploitation of youth culture.

These rap brothers better pool up they money and give the people what they want. That was some bull Jada said about do you watch movies. People take this rap thing very seriously and you can't cop out like well they doing it so we gotta do it. Take responsibility and live up to the words our ancestors tried to teach us. Rappers have turned to coons.

This is intertwined with the absence of family/male role model. Mothers have an immense role in upbringing their children and taking care of their husbands. When women/mothers are "into" their children and household, men/fathers will be more likely to do the same. There is nothing more devastating than having children and forgetting about them once they're born. The role of the family is crucial and a very hard task. Many people know that but do not act upon it.
