Pennsylvania 6-5000 was inspired by the telephone number of the Pennsylvania Hotel in NY, NY, where many of the great Big Bands played in the 30s and 40s.It is, btw, the oldest continuing phone number known, having been the number for the Pennsylvania Hotel since 1919.
