We don't know how the cars are tuned or which driver has the better hole-shot technique, but we're calling our street race in favor of the Vette.You see, there's no historical basis for a close Corvette-Mustang rivalry. A Corvette of any year is a little too fast and smart to be street racing ratty muscle cars. It's a real sports car, the kind of car that's still fun when you start going around corners.But maybe it's a different story with this 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR and 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Each of these rear-wheel-drive coupes has a V8 rated for more than 500 horsepower at the flywheel. And with the release of the limited-edition 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, Ford has moved in on Chevrolet's price territory. The GT500KR leaves the Ford factory as a $46,730 GT500 coupe and is shipped as a rolling chassis to Carroll Shelby's facility near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. By the time the KR cruises out of Shelby's shop, it's an $82,395 Mustang.As such, the King-of-the-Road Mustang must now contend with this $76,920 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. And though the Z06 is a few horsepower shy of the upcoming ZR1, it's not an easy mark. The GT500KR will have to play like a sports car just to keep up.

what a moron!!Fisrt of all the Shelby GT500KR wasn't mean to compete with the Vette and Its more of a "niche" vehicle.Motortrend Tested the the Regular GT500 and got it to 60 MPH in just 4.3 SECs!!This vehicle usually hit 60 MPH in 4 SECs flat!!.besides EDMUNDS usually tend to have the WORST TIMES of any car.

Ford GTX1 700hp and is slightly lighter than a vette Zr1. I'll take that any day.

First of all the GTX1 was made just for SEMA, and all it is is a convertible version of the GT. Second, your wrong. The PRODUCTION Vette C6 ZR1 beats the GTX1. The ZR1 does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and runs the Quarter mile in 11.2 seconds @ 130.5 mph. Where the GT does match the ZR1 in the 0-60 mark at 3.3, but fails on the quarter mile running a time of 11.8 @ 128mph. Making you incorrect, Sorry.

called Genaddi design group and its a 50 thousand dollar upgrade to the already 150k priced Ford GT so once again send the little 505HP z06 over to lingenfelter and you get a chevrolet/lingenfelter built corvette with 1200HP once again leaving you little GTX-1 wayyyyy behind sorry. and oh yea zr1 kills the ford GT for alot less money just incase you didnt already know that

These cars are out of the realm of ownership for most people.I can guarantee any of you that you would shit your pants tossing either of them around.I have had a GT500 and an 07' C6.Both kick ass!

KR with even more HP than the GT500 and just so happens more HP than the z06 due to its minor tweaks in exhaust and computer tune. that wasnt meant to be either right? and are you honestly telling me that motor trend based an entire comparison on nothing but a drive down a bumpy road? or was it a ride qaulity test in which the SFA ford didnt prevail? oh and the GTX-1 sorry buddy not all FORD it began as a concept car at a sema show in 05 and the Ford motor company along with another company

devja71 if the mustang was a corvette rival why did the new vette come out with 400hp in 05 and then wow how about that the gt500 was introduced in 06 with the most powerful mustang every built with 500hp and in the same price range as the corvette do you honestly think that wasnt done on purpose? little did they know their gt500 wasnt enough to compete with the corvette so corvette followed tradition and introduced their z06 with 505hp then what happened WOW again Ford introduced the gt500
