Do yourself a favour, and NEVER READ any review of the SH-1000 on the internet. ALL of them inaccurately portray the Roland SH-1000. Hopefully, this video will bring some accuracy and clarity.Feel free to link to this video or post it on your page, but please give me credit by marking it "by Marc Doty." Thanks!

Yes, if you're going to buy one, here is my advice: Do NOT buy one except from a reputable person who, at the very least, says it is fully functional. And then, DO NOT SHIP IT. They are big, heavy, and fragile!

There are actually a few on ebay now, but I guess like you say you cant afford to maintain it.

:::sighs::: I have bid on many a Polymoog in my analog obsessive period, but never won one. I can't afford to maintain one along with the others I have to maintain. But I will always want one. Maybe I'll get lucky. But yeah... the Polymoog was one of the first synths I ever wanted, and I will always want one. I have a soft spot for the divide-down polyphonics.

You know, you should really demo the Polymoog. I know you would do it justice, unlike many others who only demo the Vox Humana preset.

Another aspect of a great synth, regardless of the amount of functionality, is how good do each of its functions sound? Some VERY powerful synths don't generate satisfying results all of the time. One of the reasons the Minimoog is so great is that everything you do with it sounds good. The SH-1000 (excepting presets, of course) generates great results a lot of the time.

Agreed. Btw, the synth itself is only 50% of the sound, the other 50% of the sound is the musician's playing skill to make the sound sound great. How does that sound? :D

Thanks for the info!I did some googling, but didnt find a service manual i could download. you know any sites?? Im gonna keep searching. gotta get that fixed!

Don't give up so easily, there is a simple answer to your problem! You have a range and scale issue, which is pretty common in aging analog synths... and quite possible to fix even by the non-technical! Your SH has forgotten the range of frequencies that define an octave, is all. There should be a trimpot inside of the device which allows you to redefine that range of frequencies. See if you can find a technical manual for the SH-1000 online, and it will show your the procedure!
