Brecker and Potter are truly amazing... but they'll both tell you right away, Sonny Rollins was a huge inspiration to them, and so much of their vocab comes from them. And he hasn't lost his fire. Every single note he plays has so much passion and thought behind it. I dont know.. who are you to try to rank players like Brecker, Potter and Rollins? They're all ridiculously good musicians, and we can leave it at that.

Idk why I just love watching this video over and over. Sonny has always been my fave player of all time...ALL time. Listen to how he controls rhythm unconventionally...listen to his ideas. What was so great about Brecker? If you say runs or any damn thing Sonny has done it...he's BEEN doin it. If Brecker would have had the fortune of living this long he would not be at the same level of playing. Things change with age...look at Michael Jordan. However, change isn't even always bad...

thank you so much for saying that
