ATF just blatantly makes things up, look up the Olofson case. Also another thing a few years ago when some ATF head guy (don't remember who) was trying to describe what makes a gun and "assault rifle" he gave a description something to the effect of "protruding pistol grip" and "menacing appearance". So there you have it, all our gun laws and regulations come from feeling without any facts with out any real justification.
