Pink Floyd"High Hopes"The Division Bell[Lyrics]Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were youngIn a world of magnets and miraclesOur thoughts strayed constantly and without boundaryThe ringing of the division bell had begunAlong the Long Road and on down the CausewayDo they still meet there by the CutThere was a ragged band that followed in our footstepsRunning before time took our dreams awayLeaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the groundTo a life consumed by slow decayThe grass was greenerThe light was brighterWith friends surroundedThe night of wonderLooking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind usTo a glimpse of how green it was on the other sideSteps taken forwards but sleepwalking back againDragged by the force of some inner tideAt a higher altitude with flag unfurledWe reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of worldEncumbered forever by desire and ambitionThere's a hunger still unsatisfiedOur weary eyes still stray to the horizonThough down this road we've been so many timesThe grass was greenerThe light was brighterThe taste was sweeterThe nights of wonderWith friends surroundedThe dawn mist glowingThe water flowingThe endless riverForever and ever

its a telephone conversation where charlie (gilmour's young son) hangs up on steve o'rourke (floyd's manager). it sums up the whole album's concept of failure of communication. its also genius!!

No words can describe how beautiful "High Hopes" is.. has anyone ever understood what's goin' on at the very end of the whole album? (several secs after the song's ending I can hear a telephone hang up and someone saying "Charlie"? :S)

pink floyd is seriously the best band of all timeseriously they are my reason to live & i no that probably sounds a bit dramatic but i don't know what it is about the band its like it sucks me into my own little world when i listen to their music it doesn't matter if ive had just about the worst day ever because when i come home and listen to pink floyd im all alone surrounded by serenity and peace. and it makes me almost want to kill myself knowing that ill never get to see them play live

Pettiness of age and social design take its toll, "Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground". When all one wants is to be is with freinds and do some grass :-) and make music. But all you is left is just reminiscence.
